This new “up-stream” version of money coaching, was designed and submitted for this years ALL Collaboration and Innovation Fund. It is based on our more mainstream money coaching but for harder-to-reach cohorts.
CAP Ireland CLG was recently awarded grant funds and signed a grant agreement 2May25. Since then, preparations have commenced with our delivery partner Tiglin.ie
Last year (2024) CAP and Tiglin self-funded a small-scale money coaching pilot resulting in this innovative “up-stream” version called money coaching123 (mc123). This new approach, is specifically designed to deliver financial literacy to adults in early recovery (first 18 months), aimed at generating greater internal motivation towards a user-friendly, life-long, financial literacy and learning pathway.
With the initial 2024 iteration, CAP trained three Tiglin Aftercare service staff members, who in turn delivered the full four-weekly money coaching sessions to eleven Aftercare clients/participants (additional 9-months post-Centre recovery). One key insight being that while it did empower some participants nearing the end of Aftercare, it proved too much too soon, for most. Feedback and observation demonstrated that most were not fully prepared or ready, for the full course.
Based on this and other key learnings, mc123 is designed to engage with more vulnerable participants for more integral financial literacy. With a more reflective and “up-stream” approach, three preliminary steps will be offered to Tiglin clients in early recovery, separate from their recovery group work and before entering any Aftercare service:
- One 90-minute in-person reflective “taster” session followed by
- Two 90-minute in-person overview sessions followed by
- Three 1:1 sessions available including signposting to full money coaching externally
We are very grateful to our new funding partners who have made this project possible – see below.
Special thanks to the Kildare and Wicklow Educational and Training Board’s Regional Literacy Coordinator, who wisely guided CAP through this robust application process.
