Financial Literacy works when it is about understanding AND using personal finance skills well. Both aspects are crucial for everyone to live well.
In the video below, hear how it works with five Participants in Recovery, as facilitated by a volunteer Coach and Befrienders.
Many adults living in Ireland grasp financial literacy from an early age, then boost their understanding and application as they progress through life. However, if affected by trauma, substance abuse or addictions for example, then many struggle.
Empowering people to get back on track is the goal of money coaching123, when delivered by compassionate and caring local volunteers. Especially when these courageous volunteers are part of CAP’s new Community of Practice.
Hear Paddy (pictured above) share with Julie (Befriender) about their approach and impact through mc123. See how they sensitively facilitate financial literacy for this vulnerable and “at risk” local cohort.
Also, hear the “grace notes” in this video. If you’re musical or a musician, you’ll already know that “grace notes” enhance the main notes played by heightening the overall sound and effect produced. These extra “notes” embellish the technical skills and tools learnt by creating micro-moments for the benefit of Participants, giving rise to both understanding and application.
“money coaching works when it is more than learning skills and tools; when it’s applied giving newfound confidence for living well”

While this mc123 course is now completed, the team in Cork are planning for a second later this year. CAP’s mc123 courses run to the end of this year in Cork City; Kildare Town and Ballina.
Thanks to our granters for funding money coaching123 again in 2026, under the Collaboration & Innovation Fund #CIF
